Oprah & Tyra Campaign!

Ok - The campaign has begun, again! I am asking that you assist me in an effort to get “MY SONG” on the OPRAH Show & the Tyra Show.
As you know, Oprah and others do not normally honor natural, African-type hair. In the past, they have talked about it as though something is wrong with our “nappily” textured hair. As though we have to perm or weave our hair in order to be “presentable”. Today is the beginning of a new attitude! If you are on board, please follow the easy directions below to contribute to the campaign.
Now, you know that it’ll take more than one letter from each of us, so let’s pack her inbox! I’ll be sending out reminders on a regular to continue the movement every other day, so please be patient with me - THIS IS MY WILDEST DREAM! Help me make it happen! Thanks in advance for your assistance. ~Carole

Dear Oprah,
I am writing to ask that you host a much needed show about honoring natural, African-heritage hair. For too long, women of African decent have been told by society that something is wrong with our natural hair. Wouldn’t you agree that we should do something positive to change that negative perception and the pain resulting from it?

I recently viewed a poetry piece entitled “My Song” by a loctician in Colorado that highlights the real personal torment experienced in this society behind the rejection of natural, African-type hair. I would love it if you would have her on the show to present this piece. Most everyone can relate to some part of this piece and I know it will make a huge impact on your viewers.

Please take a look at it for yourself linked here: http://coilsncurls.com/blog/?p=17
Her name is Carole Pearson (coilsncurls.com, 303-429-9161).

Please, please help us make a serious change in society about beauty and real acceptance.
Warm Regards,
A Natural Hair Supporter

    Hi Carole!

I just wanted to say that I saw Your Song twice already and I love it. I’ve also gone on to request that Oprah and Tyra have shows on going natural. Let’s hope that they get the message that it’s time to talk about our issues with our hair.

  2. Dee (Joyfull Locks) Says:

    Carole,
This is wonderful! Submitted a request to both shows!! If either one of those ladies decides to take you up on your offer (my money is on Tyra), I am sure we would have no problem filling the studio with beautiful, natural women to drive home the fact that natural is the way to exist, succeed and shine.

  3. Vanessa Says:

    Carole,

Done, and done. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and you know I want to be an audience member when you air.

Sent messages for ya. I hope your piece gets read on specifically on Tyra, though, cuz Oprah’s kind of evil…

  7. Brenda Says:

This is so cool that you are doing this!!
Hopefully we will see you on the show. I did my part to put you there.

  8. Misty Brown Says:

I’m so glad that you are taking the next step in making your “Wildest-Dream” come true …and I’m glad I can be a part of it. My locks are beautiful thanks to you! Me

  9. Kelli Giltner Says:

I just know this is going to happen for you. You have our support and we are praying for you.

  10. Darvi Says:

It’s important to remember and share Carole’s song because its message is deeper than the revelation of beautiful natural hair. This song is about freedom and acceptance. It’s about unlocking the bolt and chains on our history wherein contains the sound of the animals on the tundra, the chanting at the ceremonies, the chatter of village women raising each other’s children. It’s about unlocking oppression and projection and walking in a power so great that it assists in manifesting purpose. Don’t miss this opportunity to love. I love you Carole and support your purpose and pray for your continual growth and direction from God.

  11. Alicia Vaca Says:

    Carole,

I loved your “Song” and have sent letters to both Oprah and Tyra on your behalf. What a wonderful idea. I will also encourage other members of the natural hair community to support your efforts. This is a cause who’s time is long overdue.

    God bless!

  12. Rayne Says:

Actually Carole, Oprah has had a pioneer in African Hair Care on her show and that was Carole’s Daughter. I truely support your effort and wish you much more luck and support and offer you my prayers, but Oprah has acknowledged our struggle and I don’t think it’s fair that we forget that. It would be nice to more of our struggles and efforts featured on these shows but please do not forget that we must celebrate the good that is there already and then we can move forward and add to it.

  13. Chris Says:

Carole, I think it’s pretty clear that both Oprah and Tyra might need a little reminder of what’s naturally beautiful if we just take a look at their own hair. I didn’t know that she had someone on that supported natural hair, but maybe that’s the point. Seems like it might be time to hear another voice on the subject…yours!

  14. Wendy Says:

Carole, Sorry it took me so long to respond to your request, but it is done. I hope you are getting back some positive responses.

  15. Lorna C. Davis Says:

I am so excited about doing this for you and our natural hair society. I know by doing this that something wonderful will come out of this. Thank you for giving me the chance to help awaken the world to our songs. We need to support each other to stomp the negative heritage that we were were raised with.
